Identifying Purposes for Personal Health Information

PRINCIPLE #2

MedEKS Technologies Inc. identifies the purpose for which it collects and or processes health information. MedEKS does not directly obtain personal health information from patients. Health information is accessed at client sites or remotely when performing the following functions:

  • Coding/Data Quality Audits
  • Scanning and photocopying services
  • Hosting of electronic patient record systems and files
  • Assistance with Coding and Abstracting backlogs
  • Development of Physician Optimization Guides
  • Utilization Management services
  • Data Repository/Electronic Records Storage/Catastrophic Recovery services
  • Other consulting services MedEKS employees and subcontractors are informed prior to commencing each project of the purpose for which the information will be collected.

In all proposals and contracts MedEKS:

  • describes the purpose for which the information will be collected
  • confirms that all information accessed during any assignment belongs to the client
  • certifies that all information belonging to the client will be returned to the client or destroyed upon completion of the assignment
